The Powershot Pro1 was released over 5 years ago. It’s old, outdated and past it’s use by date.

  1. Your camera is a fantastic bridge cmaera which has not been bettered in Canons range since launch, USM and L lens? Nothing before or since came close. I hope you get it sorted.

Canon, as well as most manufacturers had problems with the imaging devices a few years back, and your fault sounds consistant with this (they all use the same supplier, Sony)

I have posted a link for a lesser model, but the same principles apply.

I had a Minolta Dimage A2 die from the same thing, the sensor was replaced even though the camera was outside warranty.

Take comfort in that you are not alone, take greater comfort in that there is a precedent to ahve it fixed.

Good luck, the Pro 1 is the camera I wanted but couldn’t afford.

  2. Typical Canon service. Canon products are of high standards. True. Their service, however, is completely from another universe. It is very much appreciated then that Canon products rarely have problems until, sadly, the ultimate end of useful life nears. Yes, they don’t last forever and will continue to die slowly which gives you false hopes of getting it back in shape.

There was this portable Canon copier I had for about 10 years then the paper feeder suddenly started missing pages until it completely failed. Expecting much from an expensive brand, I brought the copier to the only authorized and official service center in the country. To my surprise and dismay, they quoted me a price that was twice the value of the copier when bought new. It was clearly a message telling me to buy a new one, preferrably from them, again. So I rushed out and bought from another brand.

  3. You can contact them, but it won’t do you any good. The camera is no longer supported, and they have no spare parts to fix it with.

I understand you paid a LOT of money for that camera, but it has reached the end of it’s useful life. Look at the new SX-10 as a replacement, it is a much better camera at a much lower price.
